ADVOCACY CAMERA PHILIPPINES

We have received invitations from several cine societies and we never thank them and always fail to attend except when Denisa Reyes personally asks us to go and we are too dumb struck to say "no".

But we always hesitate to build and submit. Primarily we didn't build Advocam to win awards. We had won a few (ahem). And of course we WANT (we desire!) an award. It was simply not our purpose. We were interested in creating a niche market we would carve out of NGO's and institutions. I am hesitant to mix my love for fine film with my obvious money-making. That was 3 years ago. The youtube was just created. I was naive.

We took Ate Glo Lava's old camera (that was broken) to document cinema-direct style the reforestation effort of Clean and Green in its dying days.

Ariel is from showbiz and could not resist editing the footage in that "Viva way" but the truth of the matter is that it made the material very friendly and interesting.

But the real market with established programs and money is the government. So we were really happy when NAST headed by Ning Samarita contacted us.
Its also at the NAST that we learned of incredible money available to serious moviemakers who are interested in developing digital media for research.

The niche market we started out to carve is a deadly one. There is this ugly process of bidding they subject the moviemaking to. Its the same bureaucratic process they use to buy freezers and furniture. Like I said I was naive.

But ASEC Orijola is right when she said that movies have copyrights likes books and music. She said that they don't have support programs for guys like us.

We are fortunate to finally find foothold (and a very tenuous one at that...its an election year) at the DOST. Where else would we find an ally?

Video is not writing. It is far more immediate.

Advocam (advocam@gmail.com) is a brain child of two different approaches to cinema. It is expertise culled together by combining experimental cinema philosophies with practical, convenient, commercial filmmaking.

Advocam was  envisioned to service the digital needs of institutions by creating customized applications.  Most institutions have complex conferencing needs. in-house documentation and video research  requirements.

Advocam immediately found its niche among developmental NGOs, LGUs, educational institutes and alternative trading networks.

Advocam is an independent production house, content provider and consultancy.

Advocam is a product of the new information technology.  It is unlike traditional filmmaking.  It is digital.  It is immediate.

WE ARE CONSTANTLY DEVELOPING DIGITAL MEDIA APPLICATIONS.

WE HAVE an MTV format we use for scrapbooking.

WE HAVE a cinema direct approach for organizing communities and contextualizing data and analyses in real setting. This is mainly for research and development (R&D).

WE HAVE digital class yearbooks.

WE HAVE started a digi-catalogue of collections with 15 museums.

WE HAVE web marketing tools for businesses.

WE HAVE a books-to-video application that is an educational tool. Audio-visual is simply more accessible to the world's millions. The advancement of technologies in information and communications have altered our lifestyles. The digital gives us incredible access to massive information in real time at push button ease. Our world has changed. Our definition of "literacy" will change. Our educational institutions will change.
